Get Out this week!

Well, after being sick most of the week (actually, most of the month) I am really ready to get out of the house this week. But, that all depends on when my kids start feeling better too. So, I thought I'd come up with some ideas that were very flexible and easy for someone like me to actually do when I'm still getting over an illness. I'll mostly elaborate on some of the ideas from my "Rain Check" post. If you have any ideas, please feel free to tell me about them!

- See "Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs" matinee (I've heard it's really cute)
- Make some Valentine's Day crafts. Examples include: a countdown chain - kids LOVE to take one of the links off in anticipation of an occasion, Big paper heart valentines for relatives, Cut out hearts of all colors and sizes then hang them from the ceiling with strings.
- Walk around inside the mall, get an ice-cream cone and play at the indoor tree-house (University Mall in Orem)
- Go to story time at the library (Provo Library has story time Monday through Friday at 10 and 11am). Or if you go when Story time isn't happening, it is less crowded and you can sift through their great selection of family movies, CD's, and books.

Also, I've had an activity survey posted on the side of my blog and it looks like Sledding won! I don't think my kids are up for it this week, but if you are, then round up some friends and go find a hill! A friend told me that the Mountain View High School football field is a really great place to go sledding with kids. If you're more of a speed demon, then I would recommend Provo's Rock Canyon Park just North East of the Provo Temple.

Have fun! Hopefully we'll be feeling up to more outdoor adventures soon :)

Jumpin' Jacks: Tuesday the 26th

http://www.jumpinjackskids.com/index.php in Springville

It's fun, it's cheap, it's awesome. We'll be there around 10 AM. Hope to see you!

****make sure to bring/wear socks - you have to wear them even if you aren't playing****

p.s. - I wanted to go to Jump On It but it doesn't open until 2pm which is right in the middle of our nap time. Maybe we'll try it out next week after naps :)

Rain Check

I was just about to head out the door to go watch the planes, but it looks much too cold and wet to take my two little ones out.

Here are some rain check ideas for days like today when the weather is too yucky to walk around in:
- library story time
- play at the mall tree-house
- visit Grandma and Grandpa
- go to a dollar movie
- do arts and crafts (specific ideas coming soon)
- play games (hide and seek, ring around the rosies with stuffed animals, duck duck goose, etc.)
- go have lunch at someplace fun (McDonalds play place?)
- puppet show with sock puppets or paper bag puppets
- build a hut: kitchen table and sheets

Hope you have a fun day despite the weather!

Wednesday Jan. 20th Activity Idea

Watching Airplanes at the Provo Airport

My mom told me about this nice path that leads south along the Provo river/Utah lake and heads towards the airport. Turns out it is actually the Provo River Parkway trail - it just continues on South after you get to the road that heads off west to the lake. So, Sean and I took the kids walking there during the summer and Peter loved watching the planes fly in and out. I was surprised at how often they came in. I'm not sure what the weather is going to be like, but I'm hoping it will be nice enough to walk there and also nice enough that pilots will want to be flying. So, let's cross our fingers :)

I'll be starting off at 9:30 am. If you want to join along, drive west heading towards Utah Lake State Park (drive as far west as you can on Provo's center street) and the trail starts just before the bridge on the south side. So, if you've crossed over the bridge, you've gone too far.

Dress warm, because it will most likely be really cold! But the more people who G.O. with us, the warmer it will be :)

Tuesday's activity: Jumpin' Jacks

Tuesday January 19th is jumping day. There's a place in Springville called "Jumpin' Jacks" and I've heard it is loads of fun. And the best part is....Tuesdays are 2 for 1! woo hoo!

It's open from 11:00am - 8:00pm Monday through Thursday, Friday-Saturday open 10am - 9pm. Cost is $5 for Adults and 3 yr olds, ages 4+ are $7, 2 and under get in free. You can go to their website and find more coupons and info.

If you don't live around here, check out your local trampoline/jumping gyms to see if they are any good! I would bet that there are indoor play places like this in most cities. If you can't find one, then some other ideas to help you G.O. are: jump rope, go to an indoor McDonald's playplace, see if anyone you know has a trampoline you could use (or borrow if it is one of those small ones...)

But hopefully you can join us in Springville! I'll probably be going in the afternoon.

Thanks to Sherry and Serena for telling me about it!

Monday is "Go on a walk" day!

Even if it's just for 10 minutes. I promise you'll feel better after you get your heart rate up a bit :)

Happy Martin Luther King, Jr. Day!

Activity planned for Friday the 15th

The coolest swimming pool in Utah is only 15 minutes away! This pool is very nicely heated, has soft non-slip flooring at the bottom, a lazy river, a big water slide that goes in and out of the building, a water playground, lap pool, and my favorite - the baby/toddler pool! They even provide life vests of all sizes for the kids if you want to use them.

I am going on Friday at 9 am. Cost is $5 for adults. Kids 3 and under are free, but they need both a swimming diaper AND a diaper cover ($3 at the front desk). So, it's a little on the pricey end (compared to most of the stuff I will be doing) but it is totally worth it! You really won't regret it.

I've gotta start some kind of a car-pooling gadget for this blog... but for now, just leave a note in the comments if you want/can provide a ride!

G.O. Activity planned for Thursday, January 14th

The Provo Library has the best children's library. They host story time Tuesdays through Fridays at 10 am and 11 am. These are very fun and interactive! The story time that I take my kids to is designed for kids ages 2 and under. But I know they have a 3 and older story time too in a different room. Look at the website for details on that.

I will be going to the 11 o'clock session. Hope to see you there!

p.s. - if you want a good seat, come about 10 min. early :)

Welcome to the Get Out (G.O.) Club!

A few days ago, I had a realization. I don't have to sit around my house being bored anymore.

It's so hard as a busy and tired mother of two little boys to motivate myself to get ready early in the day, get out the door, have something fun and cheap planned, brave the cold yucky weather, and be willing to expend all that energy to do something fun with my kids! But come on...life isn't all about waiting around in my sweat pants for the weather to get nice so I can actually do stuff. SO - I wrote down a list of things to do and decided that I would GET OUT every morning so that I could maintain sanity!!!

If you know all too well what I am talking about and want to join in on the fun, then jump in cuz this boat is headed for adventure :)
